Stream TV Set to Bring Glass free 3D TVs for Olympics

July 2, 2012, By Alexandru Ion

You wanted to watch 3D content without wearing glasses. Now, Stream TV is promising to let you watch Olympics in 3D, of course without the glasses.

It should be said that the glass-free TV sets – also known as autostereoscopic-3D television sets – are way too expensive and beyond the reach of an average customer. Also, the technology is still in the research phase.

The company will be setting up its TVs at sports bars in major metropolitan areas around the world including New York City, London, Chicago, and Los Angeles, and Philadelphia, where the company is headquartered. If it succeeds in persuading the bars to purchase the TV sets, you will have Olympics in three dimensions right in front of you.

Toshiba introduced the glass-free 3D TVs in the market. It costs about ten times more than the 2D TV sets. Most consumers aren’t willing to pay that premium, especially since the market for 3D TV content is dwindling.

Stream TV is not exactly playing it safe. But if you’re in NYC, London, Chicago, LA or Philadelphia, there is a possibility of you getting a taste of Olympics in 3D without those clunky glasses.
