Hungary shows appetite for 3D | C21Media

June 27, 2012

As the US continues to lag behind in 3DTV, another European country powers ahead.

Hungarian public broadcaster Magyar Televízió (MTVA) has picked up a slew of 3D content from UK-based producer and distributor Electric Sky.

The 13-hour package is led by two one offs produced by Electric Sky: The Secret Life of the Rainforest (1×60’), originally for Sky 3D, and The Wildebeest Migration: Nature’s Greatest Journey (1×60’/1×90’), for Sky, Animal Planet and 3Net.

Jillian’s Travels and Safari 3D, made by Wild Eyes and Digital Revolution Studios for 3Net, are also included in the package.

Sharon McCulloch, Electric Sky’s sales manager with responsibility for Eastern Europe, told C21 at Natpe Budapest that while 3D uptake was currently slow in this part of the world the Hungarian deal offered hope for the future.

McCulloch said: “MTVA are doing a special in July ahead of the Olympics. They are showing a lot in 3D on free television, which is unusual because most 3D channels are on pay at the moment.

“They have taken 13 hours from us to push 3D in the country, improve interest and get more people buying 3D screens. ”
