Nintendo cancels 3D TV service and Aqua Blue 3DS – SlashGear

While not the best news for the mobile 3D industry, it looks like the cancellation of Nintendo’s 3DTV service will only impact 3DS owners in Japan. The Nintendo Video Channel – which currently delivers a limited amount of downloadable 3D content to 3DS owners in the US – appears to be unaffected by this announcement.

I think this underscores one of the more pressing challenges 3D OEMs and component providers face today – which is essentially being responsible for stimulating demand for their products by providing the devices and the content. For the most part offering content isn’t the core competency of these OEMs (save an example like Sony – which still has to deal with internal coordination challenges), and we don’t think it is realistic to expect them to carry the burden until the greater tide rises.

(And that’s where 423 Digital comes in, of course…)
